The story behind our Joshua Tree Retreat, Cholla Hills Home

From Chronic Pain to Desert Peace

A few years ago, we hit the road in our A-frame camper, chasing adventure and exploring as many national parks as we could. When we landed in Joshua Tree, it felt different. The quiet. The light. The wild, open beauty. We fell in love with it instantly.

Not long after, life shifted. One of us began navigating the challenges of chronic illness, and everything we thought we were chasing turned into a need for stillness, a need for a place to rest and heal. We decided to settle down for a while in Joshua Tree, and that’s what brought us to Cholla Hills Home. Tucked up on a hilltop, a little secluded and wrapped in desert views, it felt like the perfect place to slow down and heal.

During that time, one of us was often bed bound. So while we healed, we poured our energy into creating this home. Slowly, intentionally, and with a lot of love.

Thankfully, we’re in a better place health-wise, though chronic illness will always be part of our lives and something we have to struggle with. We’re endlessly grateful for the time we had here and for everything this space gave back to us. And now, it’s our honor to share it with you.
